I am a content creator and media strategist thrilled to be writing for the Communications team of Mike Bloomberg’s presidential campaign (@Mike2020, #Bloomberg2020).

Previously, I’d spent 15+ years as a writer and editor at NEWSWEEK and US WEEKLY, and a frequent guest on CNN and MSNBC, with additional experience spanning communications, live programming, development, talent relations, and advocacy.

Areas of expertise:

• News, politics, and current events
• Film stories, reviews and film festivals
• Panels, moderating and live programming
• Media relations
• Celebrity booking
• LGBTQ advocacy work
• Parenting topics
• Newsletters, MailChimp.com, WordPress.com

For Father’s Day 2019, I penned a Shondaland.com essay on coming to terms with our 7-year-old son Lucas’s passion for sports — despite my total lack of interest in athletics — and the unexpected friendships I’ve made with other dads along the way. (In 2018, I wrote this Refinery29 piece on parenting a jock.) Timed to Mother’s Day 2019, I produced this tongue-in-cheek Logo piece on Joan Crawford’s Top Parenting Tips.

Throughout 2018 and 2019, I worked with the Nantucket Film Festival; Hachette Books / author Ndaba Mandela (Nelson’s grandson); Casey Cares, a non-profit serving the families of critically ill children; and NewFest: NY’s premier LGBT Film and Media Arts Org.

I recently completed a short screenplay called THE BUNGALOW, which focuses on brilliant, bisexual REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE director Nicholas Ray.

An event moderator and TV presence throughout my career, I hosted this TED-style event during my 2018 reunion weekend at Northwestern University in which accomplished alumni shared first-person stories about a “Moment of Decision” that shaped their lives.

I’m always open to new opportunities. Email: bjs1nyc@gmail.com
