Welcome!

I bring two decades of publishing and communications experience to my work at Bloomberg LP, the global leader in business and financial data, news and insight.

A digital content specialist, I currently co-author a daily Bloomberg newsletter out every 8 a.m. that covers the geopolitical and cultural landscape including Covid, Biden, news, issues and trends, as part of Bloomberg Communications team. I am passionate about helping readers make sense of the myriad issues of this increasingly complex period, with prose that is accessible, educational, even inspirational.

During the 2020 presidential cycle, I co-wrote the “Mike 2020” daily campaign newsletter, which featured digital ad reveals, event coverage, policy rollouts, and Twitter wars with Trump — published seven days a week. I also wrote an internal doc for campaign’s top strategists on news, races and polls delivered at 5 a.m. seven days a week.

Prior to joining Bloomberg, I’d spent 15+ years as a writer and editor covering politics, business, lifestyle and entertainment news at Newsweek and Wenner Media. I have a print and digital background, and can create and package content across multiple platforms.

Areas of expertise:

• News, politics, Covid, current events
• Newsletters, MailChimp.com, WordPress.com
• Film stories, reviews and film festivals
• Panels, moderating and live programming
• Celebrity booking / media relations
• LGBTQ advocacy work
• Parenting topics

Freelance writing:

For Father’s Day 2019, I penned a Shondaland.com essay on coming to terms with our 7-year-old son Lucas’s passion for sports — despite my total lack of interest in athletics — and the unexpected friendships I’ve made with other dads along the way. (In 2018, I wrote this Refinery29 piece on parenting a jock.) Timed to Mother’s Day 2019, I produced this tongue-in-cheek Logo piece on Joan Crawford’s Top Parenting Tips.

Throughout 2018 and 2019, I worked with the Nantucket Film Festival; Hachette Books / author Ndaba Mandela (Nelson’s grandson); Casey Cares, a non-profit serving the families of critically ill children; and NewFest: NY’s premier LGBT Film and Media Arts Org.

I recently completed a short screenplay called THE BUNGALOW, which focuses on brilliant, bisexual REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE director Nicholas Ray.

An event moderator and TV presence throughout my career, I hosted this TED-style event during my 2018 reunion weekend at Northwestern University in which accomplished alumni shared first-person stories about a “Moment of Decision” that shaped their lives.

I’m always open to new opportunities. Email: bjs1nyc@gmail.com
